Cecelia  — ADOPTED

“You’re breaking my heart”.

That was indeed the case for Connie who discovered this sweet girl at her sister’s cabin.  Unable to personally provide the home she so desperately needed, Connie determinedly began to seek out someone who could.  When an agreeable family was found  Connie attended to all the details and delivery of Cecelia.  Committed to ensuring that she had seen Cecelia through to safekeeping, she followed up the next morning.  The sweetness of success evaporated when she was informed the cat had been put out for meowing too much.  Connie sped to Cecelia’s rescue once again.  Cecelia having nowhere to go remained put, perhaps she was counting on Connie to return for her.

SIGH!  “Why do such crummy things happen to such nice cats”?!!   We do after all as a species advocate that humans are the smart ones!

Cecelia is now in our care, comfortably recovering from her spay surgery.  She is a gentle, gracious girl.  Calm and appreciative we would like to see her placed in foster care as soon as possible.

Foster homes provide invaluable information on the day to day needs and preferences of rescued  cats.

Misty (other Misty)

Misty (other Misty)

Misty is a pleasant and sociable sort. It is important to her to be involved in the day to day running of a household. Though it is impossible to be a tortie and not be a little opinionated she is always polite. She loves to have a good chat about the days events and provide you with direction on what needs your immediate attention. Being a bit of a mother hen, Misty needs a home that values and enjoys feline participation in all they do.
She is equally pleasant and sociable with other agreeable and well mannered felines.
Misty has one specific requirement. She is passionately fond of fresh and flowing water, no still bowls for her, only a proper water fountain will do.

Misty

Misty is one of our seniors. She is a spry and sassy sixteen year old, in good health for her age. She minces about like Bette Midler and makes it clear to all that she expects the respect an elder deserves.
Misty is a delightful companion. Though she isn’t much for gabbing she is a powerful communicator and a persistant one. Meals at apropriate times are a must for her. Capturing you with an intently focussed stare you are compelled to stop whatever you are doing and immediately attend to her request. Dry cat food, in her opinion, is not food at all. She has a zestful appetite for canned, but for nicely gravied poutry only.
Misty has shown tolerance for other cats, but no real fondness. She would be most content with a kind and quiet adult or two, willing to cater to her exclusively.

Fred

Fred

No one could say for sure when Fred first showed up. Like countless other street cats he went about his day to day mostly unnoticed, struggling to survive. Fred was fortunate to find shelter in an elderly woman’s garage.  Once discovered the woman kindly  permitted him to stay and ensured he would not starve. Both were respectful but a little fearful of the other, neither tried to pursue a more personal relationship.  Sadly the woman passed away suddenly and with her went Fred’s sliver of security.  Grizzled black and scruffy, sporting the pungently unpleasant cologne of an intact male did not make Fred an attractive companion cat consideration.  Those aware of Fred’s predicament thought it best that he be disposed of.  But one who had volunteered with us long ago knew of his plight and wanted to help.  She was adamant that she could and would do whatever was necessary to see that Fred was rescued: the elderly woman would have wanted it that way.  Arrangements were made for him to go directly to the veterinarian for a much needed neuter, vaccinations and an ID tattoo.

A pitifully frightened and forlorn Fred was discharged to us.  We quietly tended to his needs, taking care not to offend or scare him further.  Delectable tidbits and gentle words of reassurance were offered, but Fred remained frozen in fear.  In an attempt to make him feel more secure a plush and poofy baby blue bed was offered.  He slipped silently into its cushy depths and within moments began kneading like a nursing kitten.  Fred loved that bed!  The following day he was blissfully lolling to and fro darn near beaming at us.  We do not know why the gift of that bed had such a significant impact on Fred.  Perhaps it brought back a distant memory of when he had been safe and well loved.  Regardless, it provided a fast track to his heart and his trust.  Fred is now an utterly fearless feline though we wish he would practice a bit of caution for he is often directly underfoot vying for attention.  He is an adoring companion, keeping a watchful eye on those that are important to him.  He would do well with an equally adoring person or two that enjoy lounging about with their favorite one and only feline friend.  Fred had so little for so long he would rather not share his people.

Fritz and Frances

Fritz and Frances

Rescued from the reserve, they were little more than scraps of dirty fur and bone when they arrived.  Frances, committed to never knowing another hungry moment in this lifetime, is immensely proud of her most abundant girth.  Fritz is adamant that his sister needs to exercise more if she is going to keep eating like THAT!  They share a comical sibling relationship, poking and bugging, but are deeply devoted to each other.  They will never forgot their time with only one another to depend upon.  Frannie and Fritz have grown into warm, gentle receptive cats, maintaining a sweet kitten mentality.  They still need to be invited to join in, but are delighted to be asked.  They would thrive in a home that gently supports and encourages those that they love.

Sarah

Through no fault of her own, Sarah found herself the lone occupant of what used to be her home. During her stay in foster care she has proven to be a polite and appreciative house guest, adjusting well to an all new lifestyle.  Affectionate, yet unassuming, she enjoys being invited to join in family activities.  Companion cats and dogs are new to her but she has been open and receptive to those who are courteous and respectful.

Sarah’s sweet and gentle nature make her a pleasant companion.  She would do well in a relaxed, affectionate home that will ensure she is always aware of how very much she is wanted.

Pele

Pele

Pele has great feline charisma, making fans and friends of all he meets.  Enthusiastically pursuing love, life and anything that moves, he can find fun in the most mundane of moments.

Pele came to us, literally, bolting into a volunteer’s home with the Ta-dah!!! of a much anticipated  guest.  Glossy, bold and sporting a collar, he appeared to be an owned cat and one who had been well loved.  We actively tried to locate his owner but no one came for the handsome black cat.  Initially, once homeless, the bold will try and seek help but hostile rejection teaches them to be fearful and cautious.  As their faith in mankind dwindles so does their possibility of rescue.  They join the ranks of the silent and unseen.  Pele was fortunate to choose well the first time, arriving with his optimism and a couple of other things fully intact.

Much of his charm is his expectation that you will bring your very best to the friendship – so you do.  Pele and the irrepressible Georgia have become fast friends - actually mischievous co-conspirators best describes their relationship.  Though Georgia adores Pele, she has taken it upon herself to ensure balance in his life.  With his best interest in mind she is quick to act if  “Pretty Boy” seems a little too full of himself.  A few well spent moments pinned in a headlock is usually all it takes to remind him that “Girls Rule”!!!  Georgia is definitely Pele’s kind of girl.

Pele expresses his love in an open honest manner that is impossible to resist and he frequently demonstrates it with a perfect feline hug.  Extremely intelligent, social, yet sensitive, friendship and affection take top priority in his world.  He needs people that are willing and eager to ensure he always has plenty of both.  And he needs Georgia!

Georgia

Georgia

Georgia makes you chuckle with her rough and tumble tomboy ways.  She fancies herself  a superb lady wrestler having spent hours perfecting her moves and holds.  Possessing the cocky bravado usually reserved for the young and intact, she swaggers before the boys, daring them to challenge her.  Foolishly Pele usually does, determined to, this time, win their match.  To date the odds definitely favor Georgia.  We can see that Pele has been working on a few moves of his own but, once secured in one of Georgia’s famous feline headlocks, Pele is forced to concede yet again.

Georgia  did not fend for herself long on the streets.  Once homeless she took up residence with a feral colony we were in the process of rescuing.  In their protective care she was allowed to maintain her carefree adolescent exuberance.

Georgia is as fond of people as she is of cats.  She is open and generous with her affection, though she doesn’t always take direction well.  Humorously defiant, she squarely meets your gaze, letting you know in no uncertain terms that you are being most annoying.  Willful and wonderful, that is Georgia.

Family is important to cats like Georgia and it goes without saying that family includes cats.  She must have a good natured, feisty cat companion to keep up with her.  A lesser cat could be victimized, by her love of feline wrestling.  Pele is an excellent companion for Georgia.

April

April

April is never wishy washy about her likes and dislikes.  In a glance you know if something or someone meets with her approval or NOT!  She is lightening fast to pass judgement and secretive about the criteria.  An approving April is a perfect picture of pretty.  A disapproving April is not.  Ears askew, whiskers awry, eyes crossing to the back of her head whilst recoiling in distasteful disbelief; leaving no room for doubt as to her true feelings.  The offending person is left feeling dirty and worthless – pass the Handi-wipes please.  Cats like April find the world a more difficult place than those that do not judge so harshly and immediately.  Their fear of change makes them highly suspicious of anything new.  They are the “insecures”.  These cats have very poor coping skills, if any, resorting instead to self imposed restrictions to keep their life simple and structured.  Choices and decision making are overwhelming for them so they instead simply leap to conclusions.  The April’s of the world are happiest when they have an entrusted loved one to see to their day to day, creating a quiet calm routine free of surprises and unknowns.  Their chosen ones truly are the sunshine of their life, the air that they breathe.

We initially suffered April’s complete rejection, but took no offense and continued to “be the change we really, really wanted to see” in her.  The “insecures” are often written off as “nasty” cats when in fact they are only extremely fearful.  Our patience and efforts with April have been well rewarded.  She now loves to nestle in your arms, gentle and adoring.

April would do best in a single adult only home.  She will never be  boldly well adjusted, it is simply not her nature.  She needs someone who can fully appreciate and unconditionally love an adoring dependant.  Like the abused, the adopting of an “insecure” requires a familarizing process.

Artie

Artie

One can’t help but love Artie because Artie loves everyone and everything.  For him everyday is a glorious day to be alive and he encourages you to embrace it and him as well.

Artie spent two bitter winters on the streets of Ogden.  Though not feral he had to be trapped.  Frightened and doubtful that anything good could possibly come his way he was hesitant to call any person friend.  But Artie is kind and forgiving, he is simply not capable of bitterness or holding a grudge.  These days he enjoys lounging in cushy beds, fine dining, hanging out with good humored cat buddies and words of love.  Artie would do well in an adult only home with some pleasant low-key cat company.

Ashley

Ashley

Ashley is as lovely as she is warm-hearted.  She has excellent manners and is polite with most everyone she meets.  But you must be sensitive to Ashley’s mood for she is prone to spells of self doubt and worry.  We are baffled why such a fine girl would be so hard on herself; so we are very lavish with our compliments and praise.  After all it is a rare feline or human for that matter that tires of hearing how wonderful they are.  Alone time is not beneficial for those that tend to dwell on perceived shortcomings.  Feline company is important.  Ashley plays well with others that are equally polite and sensitive to another’s fragile feelings.

This most deserving girl needs a most nurturing home, deeply invested in family.  Where words of encouragement and love are the order of each and every day, chasing away the willies of the past.

Bashaw & Evan (bonded pair)

Bashaw & Evan (bonded pair)

This sibling pair were from a feral colony in Forest Lawn.  Bashaw can be a bit shy with newcomers, but that shyness is quickly replaced by her need to be held like a baby.  She is a highly aware cat and sensitive to all that goes on around her.  Evan is a “big boned’  fellow who never misses the opportunity to settle on the back of one foolish enough to stoop down in his prescence.  We consider these two to be needy cats.  As much as they enjoy each other they very much want a person or two who appreciates quiet time at home with the cats.  Both are bobtails.

Kristoff

Kristoff

Kristoff is very selective when it comes to close personal relationships.  Embracing those that have proven beyond a doubt that they are trustworthy and kind.  We are having difficulty though encouraging him to expand his circle of friends.  Some cats that have suffered abuse will never forget what people can be capable of.  Kristoff is keenly intelligent and has a long and precise memory recalling all good deeds and those involved and most particularly all bad.  Adopting those that have known great unkindness is a project with a process, perhaps much like dating.  After a number of civilized encounters to get acquainted, an internal tally is taken and a decision is made on whether or not there is the potential for a continuing relationship.  Our selective cats are firm in what they do not want.  Their rejection is absolute.

Only those comfortably capable of immense  patience and unconditional love should consider a cat with an abused background.  Initially there is the potential for hurt feelings and sometimes other things.  Such episodes can not be taken personally and require immediate forgiveness.  Relationships with the abused evolve, they can not be stepped along.  Kristoff is a cat of great heart, not to mention a most amusing ham with those he holds near and dear.  Oh!  Did I mention he is incredibily handsome?!

Adoption of an abused cat needs serious consideration and 100% commitment.

Kristoff enjoys cats with a kitten mentality for he too is still a kitten at heart.  He has also shown a great fondness for some small dogs – no persistent terrier types please.  Children are out of the question.

Oshi-Adopted

Oshi-Adopted

Oshi loves to hear someone call his name.  His chest puffs with pride like a baby birds.  Add an invitation and Oshi comes running.  Barely a young adult, he found himself not only nameless but homeless during last winter’s bitterest cold.  So desperate was his situation that a call came from one who “didn’t really care for cats” but she could not bear to see him suffer cold and huddled one more day.  A volunteer was dispatched, his rescue went without problems or protest, the young cat was far to cold to flee or resist.  Though he was grateful for the warm hospitality, he was apprehensive and a little edgy.  Uncertainty plagues cats rescued from the street.  Experience has taught them there are many dangers.  That one must be ever watchful and wary if they are to survive.  When the hesitation leaves their eyes and actions, we know we are well on our way to success.  Anticipating only the good, they are free to drop the defenses of the past.

On his side, when Oshi sits just so, a large black heart emerges from his glossy contrasting fur.  And beneath it lies another, Oshi’s heart of gold, pure, kind and willing.

Oshi needs an adult only home.  He should have creature company but his companion must be noncompetitive and all about good natured fun.  Oshi’s people must be lovingly encouraging.  He is very sensitive to harsh words and criticism.

Ira & Mary (bonded pair)

Ira & Mary (bonded pair)

Their feral beginnings are very difficult to detect these days.

Ira is a very sweet and extremely sensitive fellow.  He is a devoted people pleaser, at his best when being complimented and mushed upon.  He is a “big” boy but totally unaware of his imposing size.

Mary is a brilliant girl, keenly attentive to all around her, she demands the leading role in this sibling relationship.  And Ira is just fine with that.  A bit of a bossy britches, we suspect she is a firstborn.

Ira and Mary are utterly charming cats, highly intelligent and great fun.

They would not do well with young children but could enjoy a family that has gentle regard for fine felines.  Ira is most fond of polite pomeranians.
