Kristoff is very selective when it comes to close personal relationships. Embracing those that have proven beyond a doubt that they are trustworthy and kind. We are having difficulty though encouraging him to expand his circle of friends. Some cats that have suffered abuse will never forget what people can be capable of. Kristoff is keenly intelligent and has a long and precise memory recalling all good deeds and those involved and most particularly all bad. Adopting those that have known great unkindness is a project with a process, perhaps much like dating. After a number of civilized encounters to get acquainted, an internal tally is taken and a decision is made on whether or not there is the potential for a continuing relationship. Our selective cats are firm in what they do not want. Their rejection is absolute.
Only those comfortably capable of immense patience and unconditional love should consider a cat with an abused background. Initially there is the potential for hurt feelings and sometimes other things. Such episodes can not be taken personally and require immediate forgiveness. Relationships with the abused evolve, they can not be stepped along. Kristoff is a cat of great heart, not to mention a most amusing ham with those he holds near and dear. Oh! Did I mention he is incredibily handsome?!
Adoption of an abused cat needs serious consideration and 100% commitment.
Kristoff enjoys cats with a kitten mentality for he too is still a kitten at heart. He has also shown a great fondness for some small dogs – no persistent terrier types please. Children are out of the question.
