April is never wishy washy about her likes and dislikes. In a glance you know if something or someone meets with her approval or NOT! She is lightening fast to pass judgement and secretive about the criteria. An approving April is a perfect picture of pretty. A disapproving April is not. Ears askew, whiskers awry, eyes crossing to the back of her head whilst recoiling in distasteful disbelief; leaving no room for doubt as to her true feelings. The offending person is left feeling dirty and worthless – pass the Handi-wipes please. Cats like April find the world a more difficult place than those that do not judge so harshly and immediately. Their fear of change makes them highly suspicious of anything new. They are the “insecures”. These cats have very poor coping skills, if any, resorting instead to self imposed restrictions to keep their life simple and structured. Choices and decision making are overwhelming for them so they instead simply leap to conclusions. The April’s of the world are happiest when they have an entrusted loved one to see to their day to day, creating a quiet calm routine free of surprises and unknowns. Their chosen ones truly are the sunshine of their life, the air that they breathe.
We initially suffered April’s complete rejection, but took no offense and continued to “be the change we really, really wanted to see” in her. The “insecures” are often written off as “nasty” cats when in fact they are only extremely fearful. Our patience and efforts with April have been well rewarded. She now loves to nestle in your arms, gentle and adoring.
April would do best in a single adult only home. She will never be boldly well adjusted, it is simply not her nature. She needs someone who can fully appreciate and unconditionally love an adoring dependant. Like the abused, the adopting of an “insecure” requires a familarizing process.
